Modern livingroom with a giant stencil pattern
Thursday, August 27, 2009

This living room created in blue and pink colour completed with a giant stencil pattern across one wall. Fringed pillows and natural wood characterizes this room.
Wall colour
Paint half the room powder blue and the other half beige. Stencil a large repeat pattern across one of the walls. Hold the stencil in place with repositioning spray.

Floor paint
Paint the floor a chocolate brown colour. Use paint with a glass finish to reflect light back into the room.
Cushions
Use a dye stripper to remove the colour from 10 wool blankets. Dye pale blue, pink and beige with cold-water dyes. Once dry, make 36inch floor cushions and throws for the sofa. Fray the edges and add beads for a touch of sparkle.
Bench seating
Make bench seating from reclaimed timber. Treat with lime wax and fix to the walls using strong mirror plates and wall brackets. Under the seating, place wicker baskets for extra storage.
TV unit
Build a TV unit and a DJ unit from MDF. Paint with beige water-based paint and attach casters.
Fireplace
Remove any existing fire surround and construct a box frame from reclaimed timber. Give this an aged look by lime waxing it. Dress with tea lights.
Dining table
Customise a dining table by drilling small holes in a pattern formation. Fill these with clear silicone sealant and add a small aluminium catering nugget in a circular design.

Fabric touches
Cover the seats of the dining chairs with blue silk. Use the same material to make curtains. Use thin muslin in place of net curtains. Give the curtains a panelled feel by simply adding header tape.
Curtains
Create muslin panels for the patio window. Stencil with the same design as used on the walls. Attach to the windows using crocodile clips and a double curtain pole. To complete the look, dress the room with lilies and ornaments.
