The elements of nature attached in this living room, this room design incorporates calming blue and lilac colours with rustic elements and bold green houseplants. The room is divided with an illuminated archway.


Wall colour
Paint the walls with soft calming colours. Divide the room so one half is painted in pale blue and the other half pale lilac. Compliment these colours by using cream as an accent colour around the room.


Archway
Build an archway to soften the division of the room. Paint this cream. Place sunken halogen lights into the arch into to create a soft and romantic down lighting.


Screens
To conceal the office area of your living room, create lightweight screens. Build three frames from 2x1 timber and paint them cream. Staple or nail cane sheeting or Indian fretwork to the back of the frame. Use flush hinges to attach the frames together.


Wooden floor
Lay a real wooden floor to give a natural feel to the room. It will reflect the light in the room, which will not only make the room brighter but also give it a warmer feel.


Storage cabinet
To conceal you hi-fi and television, make a TV cabinet. Create a cube from MDF with two doors. Paint the structure cream. Cut out the centre of each of the doors and staple Indian style fretwork or cane sheeting to the back.


Chest of drawers
Sand down your existing chest of drawers to remove any varnished surfaces. Cover the body of the chest with a primer, leaving the top shelf wood. Paint the chest cream and seal the top with a honey varnish. Attach small silver handles to each drawer.


Chairs and table
Paint your chairs and table following the steps for the chest of drawers. Dress the table with coir place mats and bold blue china. Fill a vase with long sticks of green bamboo and place in the centre of the table.


Blind
To soften the light entering your living room dress your window with cream fabric Venetian blinds.


Accessories
Fill you shelves and surfaces with chrome vases and trinkets, blue candles and terracotta pots. Use big green leafy houseplants, fresh bamboo and white lilies around the room to add colour.
