A contemporary multi-purpose bedroom that includes a study area, place to relax in and an entertainment platform. Bold blocks of colour are mixed with natural elements to create a stylish and modern design.
Wall colours
Introduce a contemporary colour scheme to the area with creams, chocolate and coffee paints. If you have a high ceiling, bring it down by using these colours in horizontal stripes across your walls.
Modern art
For an inexpensive modern art creation of your own buy three rectangular picture frames and paint cream, coffee and chocolate in blocks of colour inside the card picture mount. Hang the frames in a row to achieve the full artistic effect.
Relaxation platform
If you have tall ceilings and not very much floor area, try constructing a platform half way up the wall. This way you can relax without using up valuable floor space. Try building it so a table or desk can fit underneath.
Curtains
It can be difficult to find curtains to fit a long window. You can adapt short curtains by adding a length of material onto the bottom of the existing curtains. Use two colours to correspond with the rest of the room.
Funky Wall Hanging
To make a bare wall space interesting, collect some fun and colourful postcards from restaurants, clubs and pubs. Laminate them and pierce holes at either end of each card. String each one together with white cotton and hang from the ceiling.
Finishing touches
Complete the room by dressing with wicker baskets, candles and little boxes.
Top Tip
Use low tack masking tape when marking out stripes for paint effects around the bedroom walls. Remove the tape by peeling it downwards off the walls.
If you have lumps in your paint, simply sieve the mixture through a pair of tights.
Add colour to any plain cushion covers by using any fabric remnants. Stick a band, square or suitable shape to cushion cover.
